Storm surge of snark

The Republicans from Duhbya and Darth to McCain aren't so much afraid of the real hurricanes, Gustav and Hanna. What they really fear is the eye wall and storm surge of snark.

This is really too easy:

  • Suppose they gave an RNC and nobody came.
  • Photo-ops for a failed comb-over.
  • Balloon drop into 150 mph winds!
  • Obama had Invesco, but we'll always have the Superdome.
  • Republicans in disarray - you hadn't noticed already?
  • The RNC Welcoming Committee is all that's left. (And boy are they left!)
  • McCain, why did you vote against hurricane relief?
These hurricanes are a complete PR disaster for the Republicans. If they weren't such venal, unsympathetic, and incompetent bastards, I'd almost feel sorry for them. But no, they deeply deserve to have what goes around come back around to land on them.

I'll save my concern for the innocents who'll lose their lives, their property, and their livelihoods in what comes. The victims may, like Katrina's, have their lives disrupted for years. They are the ones who don't deserve four more years of Bushist Republican misrule. Among others.

Image in the public domain. You and I already paid for it.

Update: See also "How many refugees". The snark continues.

Why doesn't Mccain just skip the RNC too? I think they all caught wind (no pun intended) of Rage Against the Machine playing across the river from them on Wednesday evening. They will be competing against the raucus noise and truth instilling revolution inspiring militantism being spat out on the microphone in a blaze of hatred and anti-government protest style lyricism around prime time. Not to mention the level or protesting going on, which will far overshadow the number of people who showed up to the DNC. You want a dichotomous numbers war, well we are in for a real doozy come this November.

From McCains mouth...

I pledge that tomorrow night, and if necessary, throughout our convention ... to act as Americans, not Republicans, because America needs us now no matter whether we are Republican or Democrat,'' he said.

Oh my goodness, he said, "don't act like Republicans" He did, and he is now admitting for all of America to stop acting like Republicans.
This statement is priceless!!!!!

I find it insulting that McCain and Bush are trying to appear so compassionate and concerned NOW about how this hurricane is going to affect the people of the Gulf Coast. They sure could have cared less three years ago. But oh, I forgot. It wasn't an election year. Too little too late, in my opinion.

Well said, anonymous 3:55!

The RNC will become a telethon with McCain and Palin asking for prayers and donations. Obama and Biden are expected to appear in a joint-relief effort, helping to move NOLA residential marijuana plants to the DNC headquarters.

Those prayers haven't worked so far. I guess god has it in for both New Orleans and the Republicans. Go figure.

The problem during Katrina wasn't lack of money. It was laziness, lack of competence, and galloping cronyism, plus an ideological resistance to preparing government agencies to help people.

Your pot joke was dopey. Ha. Like mine just now. Whatever it is you're smoking, I'll pass.

interesting, considering that the Democratic party were and are cheering for a massive hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast I would think all the basement Obama dwellers would be hiding out. Guess not. Some have lit up the old pc in mom and dad's basement to join their former party chairman wishing for devastation on the Gulf Coast. Now we know why no Dem in years has gotten 50% of the voters to consider them credible.

Anonymous liar: Show me a Democrat cheering for a massive hurricane. We know it's coming and we see that it's going to hurt the Republicans, but it's only going to hurt them by hurting real people, and that's not good. Still, the Bushist Republicans deserve the reminder of their incompetence and cronyism, and that couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys.

If you think the RNC/Gustav situation is just a coincidence than you are not a card carrying Republican evangelical. I am a card carrying Democratic evangelical. This is a well thought out supernatural plan. He (God) is saying you don't deserve a convention. Three years ago your president allowed many to die. Where do you get off thinking you rate a convention after that? Let's see what he (Bush) does this time around! Many may say that Cuba got hit bad, too. Nuff said!

I don't accept that either. A merciful God wouldn't kill people just to stick his thumb in the Republicans' eye even if the Republicans deserve it.

John McCain has just announced an evacuation plan for Gulf residents for future hurricanes. Hilarious. Check it out on

Mississippi and Alabama for up to one year; provided $800 million to
compensate providers caring for Katrina evacuees; it temporarily suspended
the Medicare Part B late enrollment penalty; and permitted states hit by
Katrina or serving evacuees to access the TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy
Families) Contingency Fund. It would be offset with funds unspent by FEMA.
