Arguably?
Whose ass is CNN kissing when winning the Presidential election by seven points only wins political capital "arguably"? What wingnut lunatic has to be faux balanced by failing to report the objective fact that Obama has won serious clout by winning the Presidency?
The only rational way Obama as President would not have earned political capital would be if we lived in anarchy.

And Leahy's not the only one
Darth Cheney won't take back dropping "go fuck yourself" on Pat Leahy. Odds are he'd prefer to extend it to many other people.

Anything to avoid learning
Big media personality Gwen Ifill is now in the sights of the right. Big deal.
Ifill is hardly a reliable liberal. In fact, she's only reliable at playing that vital Beltway game of speaking troth to power.
Ifill moderated the 2004 debate between Darth and John Edwards, and she once appropriately enforced the rules against Darth using tones that the vaporous wingnut punditry found insufficiently respectful.
But these are facts, and facts don't matter. This new, trumped-up bullshit controversy is about giving weak-minded people excuses to discount the obvious inadequacy of Sarah Palin. It's an attempt to lower expectations by the tried-and-true Republican means of patronizing the voting public.

Indelibly stained
McCNN reports this story in the passive voice to avoid saying that McCain pulled a bait and switch on Obama. But at least they reported the story.
McCain's clear motive was to gain political advantage, not to put country first. More and more, it's clear that McCain wants to be the Thane of Cawdor by any means necessary.
That stain will never come out.

Ducks come home to roost
Please, Barack, don't let him get up off the canvas."If my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would've had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week. Millions would've watched as the market tumbled and their nest egg disappeared before their eyes," he said.
"I know Sen. McCain is talking about a 'casino culture' on Wall Street -- but the fact is, he's the one who wants to gamble with your life savings and that is not going to happen when I'm president. When I'm president, we're not going to gamble with Social Security."

Get that pig some lipstick!
Tim Pawlenty says the GOP needs to "freshen up." And now the whole world of on-line commentary is yukking it up about porcine cosmetology.

Proof of lifelessness
Here again is Obama's paragraph that McCain objects to:
"Nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face," Obama said Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri. "So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky."What McCain really objects to is the definitive truth in the first sentence. He knows he has to scare the voters because he knows that they know he can't fix anything that Duhbya did wrong. Going negative is what he has to do, and he's trying to attack Obama's defense against fear.
Look for the nation's mood to go even lower under McCain's slimy barrage.
Will that help, asks Jack Cafferty? Win, I doubt. But it has already helped McCain blunt the positive impact of Obama's excellent adventure.
It will also further damage America, but McCain couldn't give a crap when faced with the consuming parasite of his own ambition.
Update (3/12/09): Cleaning up drafts, I found this from 7/31/08 about the same quote:
McCain has made his race card objection to this comment from Obama:
"Nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face," Obama said Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri. "So what they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he's not patriotic enough. He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky." (emphasis added)I see, McCain and his friends think that Obama can't even mention his race without playing the race card (whatever the hell that formula means). Chris Matthews is constantly casting Obama outside "normal Americans" and talk radio is doing worse. The McCain campaign is no doubt casting Obama as risky. But it's Obama who's trying to play on race.
McCain is racing to the bottom, the foul slime that is Republican politics, by himself.

McCain press release mashup
If McCain were really a tough guy, he'd promise to wait until he's President (never!) to meet with the Dalai Lama and really piss off the Chinese.
(Is there any doubt at all that the McCain campaign piled up a ton of press releases about mostly inconsequential things to compete with Obama's trip? And, of course, McCNN printed every damn one of them. Hey, an easy day at work!)
Update: Joe Klein, true to form, is oblivious to the obvious fact that Tucker Bounds is playing him.

Blood in the water
Lesson to the Obama campaign: Don't apologize, don't back down. It just brings more shark attacks.
