Sad day

I understand why Obama left his church. It just makes me sad that he felt he had to.

My instinct is that he should have stood and fought, but against that he tried sweet reason earlier, and it failed, so it's hard to see what fighting would have helped - other than assuaging my feelings of outrage at the bullshit that all this pastor-parsing has substituted for intelligent conversation.

Religious extremism - IOKIYAR

McCain is still trying to have it both ways on his religious extremists. Sure, he has finally cut them loose, but what Obama may or may not have listened to is worse, worse, worse. And you'll notice the media is going along just fine with this. It took a blogger to raise a stink.

Hagee's whining, too. His views have been distorted, poor baby, totally unlike Jeremiah Wright's views. Now don't you want a little separation of church and state?

The truth about Hagee's sort of primitive theology is that he may claim that he believes in free will, but he really believes that everything happens because Gawd wills it. So Hitler has to be part of the good news.

The really really really outlandish belief that Hagee holds hasn't really been examined: He thinks it's a good thing to end the diaspora so that the End Times can come and most of us can die. Because Gawd wills it.

Hagee-ography

It's o.k. to ridicule lunatic black Christian Jeremiah Wright, but John Hagee is a lunatic white Christian, and thus he represents a demographic that's way too large for the media to get cross-wise with.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop

Does CNN (or anyone else in the media) ever ask a Democratic politico to give concern troll "advice" to a Republican? Has Anderson Cooper ever asked a partisan Democrat to "advise" John McCain about how to distance himself from Duhbya's unpopular positions while nonetheless holding them himself?

I'd love to see an example. No, Fox hiring Susan Estrich doesn't count, even if she did run Michael Dukakis's presidential campaign (into the ground).

Meanwhile, the media continue to hold Obama responsible for Jeremiah Wright, while staying mum on McCain's embrace of John Hagee, among others.

Like opinions, everybody has one

We Democrats have been wading through a lot of mud lately - only without boots. Lots of alleged grown-ups are saying whatever comes to mind without considering whether they sound like assholes. Yes, Bill, I mean you, and it's not your first offense.

"I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country," the former president said.
Yes, I also mean Gordon Fischer:
Clinton should never be forgiven. Period. This is a stain on his legacy, much worse, much deeper, than the one on Monica's blue dress.
Of course, I also mean Jeremiah Wright:
God damn America!
Of course, Hillary also looks willing to say anything to be the Democratic Presidential nominee:
“I think you'll be able to imagine many things Senator McCain will be able to say,” she said. “He’s never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience. I will put forth my lifetime of experience. Senator Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002.”
I'm all for drawing real distinctions, but can't we all just leave this sort of shit to the Republicans?
