Media whore Wolf Blitzer

CNN has always been about placing product.  The teabaggers just offer a particularly dangerous and worthless product.  They must pay their bills, though, which is plenty good enough for CNN.

There are of course product placements everywhere.  I was idly watching a repeat of "Bones" tonight, and there's Angela bragging how great her minivan is for hauling an artist's gear - normal enough, but she pointedly gives its name (which I decline to repeat).

Snarkolepsy

Irresistable dream sequence, riffing on this:

Useless journalist: "Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to be President?"

Romney: "I sure do. ... She's been a mayor, she's been a governor, she's been part of a presidential campaign, she's got a lot of support."

Useful journalist: "Would you hire her to make deals and manage money at Bain Capital?"

Romney: "Hem, haw, to manage my money? She doesn't have a lot of support in that area."

Me and my Wall St. homies

... gunned down you mortgage suckas!

Or wasn't McCain in Washington the whole time, advocating the deregulation of the financial system? If only he were running against himself, he might have a chance. Now it looks as though he's trying that.

And I thought all he had left was fear. I forgot about absurd ridiculous bullshit that counts on the inability of those last witless undecideds to remember Monday, much less the cowboy economics leading to our current crisis.

Wyatt Earp's here

Tim Pawlenty and Nick Searcy, separated at birth?

Busy day today. This lame "Fugitive" reference may be all there is. Sad, I know, when there's so much bullshit abroad in the world that I can't find time every stinking day to fling it back at its creators.

Invading McCain's base

Maybe the selection of Joe Biden is an attempt to subvert McCain's lead in the press corps. Here's Wolf Blitzer's Freudian slip:

Knowing Biden as I do, this will be a feisty moment.
If so, it's not working yet. Can you imagine such a dismissive lead for McCain and the RNC as Wolf sticks on Obama and the DNC?
And now the selling begins.

Thanks again, Gary Hart

What I want to know: Did the tip to the National Enquirer come from a Republican source? Rielle Hunter herself? Someone on the campaign? A member of the public?

Of course, if I were a Republican operative (shudder!), I'd launder my tip through, say, the bellhop at the Beverly Hilton. I'd be a nameless guy in the bar telling the witness how the Enquirer pays cash for good tips. No fingerprints.

I have no evidence, but it's a dirty game. If Duhbya would lie about everything, but especially about war-making in Iraq, and McCain would give up all his principles (torture? o.k.) to achieve the nomination, it's hard to imagine that no one is surveilling their opposition looking for salacious stories just like this.

This is how the game is played now, as sad as that is and as doomed as perhaps our democracy is because of it. Somehow though, I doubt that the Democrats are smart enough and bloody-minded enough to know this and act upon it. They really need to have some deterrence to show the Republicans: "You out any affair that Obama has had, and we'll out any affair of McCain's. Do we have an understanding?"

Whiplash

So now Republicans are perfectly fine with treating Osama bin Laden through court proceedings? After all this time, they are no longer saying that the legal system is inadequate and that only war will do?

Wolf whistles

One of the things that's most irritating about Wolf Blitzer and many of his fellows in the elite media is their bare-faced ability to pretend they don't remember or understand the effects their own behavior has on American politics.

If he thinks changing your mind is fine, where the hell was this judiciousness in 2004 or 2000?

And why won't he critique John McCain's mind-changing (and law-skirting) on campaign finance?

But we killed that story!

Scott McClellan's book is really confusing Wolf Blitzer. How could Scotty bring up Duhbya's cocaine use when the story was "dormant"?!

Long before 9/11, the press gave Duhbya a complete pass on his youth. The vague spin-mantra of the Bushists ("young and irresponsible" times two) made it completely clear that either Duhbya had snorted nose candy or had done something even more damaging to his electability.

Remind me, Wolf, did the media quash Bill Clinton's youthful indiscretions? Oh, sure, that was his fault. "I didn't inhale" just wasn't the sort of spin-mantra that dead-ends questions. It's the Democrats' fault!

But what about the draft-dodging? Who got in more trouble about that?

Brainwashed, I tell ya

Scott McClellan now tells us that it was all true:

  • He lied to us, though - poor baby - he didn't know it at the time.
  • Rove and Libby conspired to get their stories straight on Valerie Plame.
  • Duhbya's (mal-)administration was a propaganda operation, not a policy operation.
  • The Iraq campaign marketed lies to us.
  • America would have been better of if we did have a liberal media.
One question: When your country needed you, Scotty, where were you?

Update: See Glenn Greenwald.

Update: Wolf Blitzer exhibits his usual bulldog grip on reality. As if.

John McCain, kept man

Poor baby, only makes $400,000 on his own. Cindy has to pay all the really big bills.

Yeah, who cares? Other than Wolf Blitzer, trying to fake him as a man of the people?

Writing checks with his mouth

I misdiagnosed Duhbya's duplicity about 12-month tours of duty. I jumped to the conclusion that it was fuzzy math, a reasonable conclusion based on past experience but nonetheless wrong.

In fact, Duhbya's new policy only takes effect for deployments that start after August 1. That means, like the spoiled rich brat he is, he promises that someone else will be responsible for his PR stunt.

Of course, the real math still holds, and the troops are still screwed. In July 2009, if those tours get extended among much deserved grumbling, I'll remember who's responsible, but I'm sure Wolf Blitzer and the rest of the media will have forgotten by then. In fact, he has already written a complimentary piece that's a big butt-smooch to the White House, something so sweetly stupid that it carries the headline, "Blitzer: Standing by the troops".

Seriously, can anyone in TV think more than thirty minutes ahead?

Why does everyone hate Michael Moore?

On KnoxViews:

I don't get it. Moore stands up for what he believes, and the Wolf Blitzers and Sanjay Guptas and Lou Dobbses of the world pillory him for it - even after time has proven him right.

Right-wingers totally get in their faces, but CNN invites them back to panel discussions, even though they manifestly have no facts and no expertise. This happens over and over again. They have even given Glenn Beck, a raving moron, his own show. Then, despite the fact that no one watches it, they let him guest host for Paula Zahn, replacing vapid with rabid.

Some liberal media.

Wolf promised Moore a correction if Gupta was proven wrong. This is as close as CNN will get. They restate a few issues, making it seem as though Gupta and Moore are in violent agreement, and Gupta and CNN never admit they got anything was wrong, though it's obvious by omission.

CNN does a non-correction correction, but they steer wide of any fact-by-fact comparison. Moore, on the other hand, sources his facts. Isn't that what journalists are supposed to do?

I haven't seen SiCKO, and I don't agree with everything Moore says about health care, but I do know this: You can't believe anything just because it is on TV. (Aside: I do agree with Moore that every second story on CNN looks like a product placement or a corporate tie-in.)

We're on our own, folks. The fourth estate has sold us out.
