Some white people were raided and subjected to police intimidation. Also, some people who were quoted as chanting that they were white people have rioted and been arrested. As a liberal, I support the right of white people to dissent vocally and with some level of civil disobedience, but I think white people should be arrested if they riot.
What I would expect a responsible media to do is to find out whether the first group of white people and the second group of white people overlap in any way and by how much. That might put into perspective the police intimidation and at least justify the issuance of the warrants, though perhaps still not every alleged bit of police conduct.
I do expect to be disappointed in my expectation. The media are really fond of lumping all white people into the same category and holding all of them responsible for the acts of a few.
Of course, I substituted 'white people' for 'anarchists' to make the whole point of this item.

Scenes from St. Paul -- Democracy Now's Amy Goodman arrested

Following up on this weekend's extreme raids on various homes, at least 250 people were arrested here today in St. Paul, Minnesota. Beginning last night, St. Paul was the most militarized I have ever seen an American city be, even more so than Manhattan in the week of 9/11 -- with troops of federal, state and local law enforcement agents marching around with riot gear, machine guns, and tear gas cannisters, shouting military chants and marching in military formations. Humvees and law enforcement officers with rifles were posted on various buildings and balconies. Numerous protesters and observers were tear gassed and injured. I'll have video of the day's events posted shortly.
Perhaps most extraordinarily, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now -- the radio and TV broadcaster who has been a working journalist for close to 20 years -- was arrested
now one would say the police and RNC is overreacting with such security measures. sure looks like they were prepared for the worst with anarchists running around.
people complain about a police state...I say the federal government, Democrat or Republican, have no choice but to run a police state if the general population behaves this badly. Especially in the cities, I say it's high time to replace the police with the military.

Tear gas! This is worse than Thailand. Here is my prophesy. Election of McCain will lead to worsening of the economy in the short, and particularly long run: the next generation will be uneducated compared to other leading counties, baby-boomers will retire, etc. Religion will make further inroads into the Government - we can call it continued talibanization. The worsening of economy will lead to riots and ethnic wars with large immigrant participation, like LA riots of 1992, only on bigger scale. This will call for a police state - with electronic surveillance, theocratic conservative government and aggressive foreign policy. Possibly, a big war will be initiated to default on foreign debt and to keep the population under control.

Much as I think McCain would be bad for America (and the world), he wouldn't preside of the start of these. They're already here. He'd just make them worse.
