The joy of se...

Secession:

The events include a “secession ball” in the former slave port of Charleston (“a joyous night of music, dancing, food and drink,” says the invitation)...
One of the secessionists:
“We’re celebrating that those 170 people risked their lives and fortunes to stand for what they believed in, which is self-government,” [Jeff Antley, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Confederate Heritage Trust,] said. “Many people in the South still believe that is a just and honorable cause. Do I believe they were right in what they did? Absolutely,” he said, noting that he spoke for himself and not any organization. “There’s no shame or regret over the action those men took.”
Self-government for white people. And this asshole can't even bring himself to regret what secession brought! He calls it a just and honorable cause! To keep other humans in bondage...

For some reason out of thin air, these words echo:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
Homage to treason is not treason, but no one should forget that the Confederate defenders of slavery committed high treason and brought incredible pain and suffering on their nation, black and white.

Update (12/2): Ta-Nehisi Coates quotes the Confederates to the neo-Confederates.

Check out this site. It will illustrate the atrocious bondage that whites have had to endure. Oh, by the way, it was written by a black man.

I pity anybody who only gets their knowledge from the narrow scope of public education. Higher learning has a tendency to attack the white man and forgets the sacrifices that whites have endured to end slavery. Not only in America either.

"atrocious bondage that whites have had to endure"? Really? Where? When?

Not in this country, ever, well, except that inflicted by other white people.

And count on Thomas Sowell to miss the point. He says, "Hey, look over there."

For one thing, the question whether racism is required to have slavery is irrelevant. What matters to our country is that slavery here was accompanied by a huge dose of racist white supremacy that outlasted the Civil War, outlasted Reconstruction, outlasted Jim Crow, outlasted the civil rights movement, and exists to this day, thankfully in lesser amounts.

Of course, it has been the efforts of liberals that have made racism politically incorrect. It's no accident that talk radio - and conservatives - want to substitute their own PC for anti-racist PC. Rush Limbaugh, for instance, has taken as his job the rehabilitation of racism in slight disguise.

You libs could care less about minorities. You only care about their votes. You people claim to care about every person in the country except those that are most likely to vote Republican……White males.

Yeah, right. That's why we continue to advocate for the cause of freedom and legal equality for all groups. We're just in it for the votes. Truth is that you're projecting, anonymous. You don't care about minorities, so you can't comprehend that we actually do.

Then there are Republicans, who continue to advocate for the interests of rich people, especially the very very rich. Not enough votes in the top 0.1%. GOPers must be in it for the money.
