Rule of thumb

Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) has the unmitigated gall to whine:

Alexander also complained the White House has cut Republicans out of talks.

"Either they don't know how to operate in a bipartisan way or they don't want to operate in a bipartisan way," he said.
The Republican Party thinks it has the right to be an abusive spouse. No matter what lies and abuse it heaps upon the Democrats, no matter what slanders and borderline threats it utters against President Obama, it expects to be politely, even timorously, invited to the table to negotiate. Good faith isn't even up for negotiation.

The rule of thumb: When ugly partisans pick up the stick of bipartisanship, they're asking you to let them smack you around.

Our gnius President who told the Pubs "I won" has not yet figured out that the Dems don't have the votes. Kennedy dead, Landrieu scared, Lieberman his own man. 40 blue doggers in the House. Obama was not a Prof of Math.

So, you're cool with the bullshit pretenses of the Republicans...

Because all's fair in war, right?

Dems don't even have the Dems.

After liberal-lite Obama pulls the public option, if he ever gets the guts to tell us stragiht, a lot of real liberals are checking out of the fan-club.

SDG, for most of us, it's not a fan club. Sure, we like Obama more than his predecessor - now there's a guy with unthinking legions - but many of us have long known that he's no messiah. In fact, it's more than ironic that the wingnuts have so thoroughly imputed their own psychology to us.

Look, I'm a grown-up. Personalities come and go on the national stage. I'm an enthusiastic supporter, although inevitably also a disappointed one. I think the Dems need to gird up and fight the forces of reaction, some of which are in their own party. Man, am I ever disappointed on that score.

What I do know about Pres. Obama is that he is far better than the alternatives, at least those limited to real life. This is a judgement that - I'll be generous here - you make differently. Yet you haven't identified anything of substance in your goal of a nebulous third party, no person, no platform, no identifiable constituency.

I'm not giving up something for nothing.
